For you guys who have pickups with either caps or covers and want to haul your yak without loosing the benefits of a cap or tonneau cover go to www.oakorchardcanoe.com . I found a pretty neat system that gives you the best of both worlds. It allows you to put your yak on top and still store all your gear under the tonneau cover or fiberglass cover. I ordered one and will post how it works after I get it. My last visit to Lynnhaven Inlet was a near disaster. The buffeting effect of the tractor trailers on I95 caused me to almost loose my yak with my saw horse in the back. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw the saw horse "rocked back on it hind legs." I had never had an issue with it before. I probably wouldn't have lost it, but it scared me enough to try something different....I'll post the results after I try it out.

Jeep with all the gear was found plus a pair of new air jordans. Even the fish were still in the cooler. (I wouldn't want to open that cooler after all this time. Great news!

A member of the TKAA and fellow fisherman had his green jeep cherokee with his yellow wilderness tarpon kayak, all his fishing gear, and fish that he caught last night stolen from his driveway last night. He lives in Yorktown. Please keep a visual if you happen to see it, he has a thread on the TKAA web to get in touch with him. Thanks,

Sorry I've had problems with photobucket. I will post pictures as soon as I have the problem corrected. Thanks, Tom Edited by tgriff19 on Oct 28, 2008 at 02:08 PM

Visit John "Toast" Oast's web at www.fishyaker.com. John is well known in the Williamsburg, Tidewater area for his involvement in kayak fishing. Click on "More" for a list of neat stuff. He has some great, inexpensive ways to trick out your yak on You tube. I've made some scupper hole plugs out of foam, (which I have plenty of in case you want to make some), a $5 360 degree light (the Coast Guard requires one at night on navigable waters), neat rod leashes out of old phone chargers, etc.

Sorry I posted this under the freshwater discussion forum by mistake. Thought I would give the Upper Rapidan a try before the fall spawn. The fish were very spookish, small. No catches, but lots of hits. Saw lots of deer on the way up. Water was a little low.

Anyone fished the lower Potomac or Middle Bay lately? I'm taking the yak to St Mary's County this weekend.

Nice job Gary, can you tie me one? What size hook did you use?

I went to Lynnhaven Inlet last Sat. for a half day of fun on the water. That was the second time in a few weeks. It's a great fishery. I caught a 20" flounder the 1st visit and almost caught a large Red on Sat. I battled him for a couple of minutes, he took my yak for a 50yd run, a 180 turn, and then I lost him. Drag was set, but too loose. I saw several large black rays, some skates, and sea turtles. Unfortunately, I spent most of my time paddling and exploring. I can't wait to go back. I've got some pictures to show once I figure out how to post them. Cobra Navigator XF -

I'm going to Lynnhaven Inlet this weekend ... The reds are hot there, I would think they'd be good at the OBX too. www.tkaa.org

That's a nice smallie, beautiful picture. I made it down for a couple of hours at noon at Motts. I pulled a mother and daughter out of the water with my yak after their canoe swamped.

I recently purchased a Cobra Navigator XF. I researched this kayak and others like it for several months before opting for the XF. I am so happy I did. It's fast, stable, and is a joy to fish with. I have seven rod holders, two are on my seat back, four flush mounts, and one scotty fly rod holder. The bow has a large A-hatch and a medium sized hatch in front of the seat. I opted for the best high back seat I could afford. I purchased a blem model and I still haven't been able to find the blem. (it was a big savings) I added an AM-FM MP3 player for those times when the fishing is slow. It has plenty of room for gear in the rear. At 12'6", 47lbs., and a 450lb capacity, it's the perfect size for me. I'm a large guy. It has one of the largest rockered bow of any I've seen, which really sold me on this model. It handles boat wakes and waves with ease. Great for the salt! The only issues with Cobras, since they are manufactured in California, is finding one on the East Coast. I got mine from a dealer in Texas, who shipped it air freight free to Richmond and I picked it up there.

I went to St Inigoes, Md near Point Lookout, Md this past weekend. Point Lookout is where the Potomac runs into the Chesapeake bay. We fished Sunday without much luck. We saw lots of boats anchored and bottom fishing near Pt Lookout, but no one was catching fish. We managed to board one small flounder with a chartruese jig. It seemed the high pressure and the previous cold front moved the stripers out. I did some kayaking in the St Mary's River and St. Inigoes creek at the Coast Guard Station. Nice weather. On a side note, I talked to a friend who went wading in the Rivanna River near Lake Monticello on Sunday and they caught 50 - 60 smallmouths and redeye bass. Some were one to two lbs.

I went by the Rappahannock on the way home today and the water level is back in the green. The water is sightly dingy, but should be good for the holiday weekend.
