Development

Community Related Activities:  The Eastern Blue Ridge Fly Fishers (EBRFF) will promote flyfishing and the EBRFF club in community and regional events such as Culpeper Days, Culpeper Fest, and similar events in the surrounding communities of Madison, Orange and Warrenton.  EBRFF will attempt to engage the Shenandoah National Park Service and nearby State Park Officials by offering to provide day seminars for park visitors on fly fishing activities (i.e. fly fishing on various venues such as small streams, rivers, lakes and ponds; casting; fly tying; fly fishing from a canoe or kayak, and other related activities).  Also, EBRFF will work with local and state officials to organize a fly fish for fun day for children as an annual event.

Fundraising:  EBRFF, as a non-profit entity, relies on fundraising and donations to operate the club and promote fly fishing activities.  EBRFF will obtain funds by conducting silent auctions during club dinners and sponsoring raffles.  Prizes and services awarded at these events will be solicited from local merchants and club members.  Fundraising proceeds will be used by EBRFF to organize and sponsor an annual fly fishing show in Culpeper and youth activities.

Education

Our mission is to promote and pass on the experience of fly-fishing through teaching the principles of the sport, the selection of equipment and respect of the natural resources.  This will be accomplished through introducing people to the fundamentals of fly-fishing and related activities such as fly-tying, stream tactics, proper etiquette, the identification of habitat and food sources.  We will utilize the resources available in-house as well as through the national Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF).  EBRFF will reach out to women and young people to ensure we educate a broad base of people to the experience of fly-fishing.

Our methods of teaching shall include classroom as well as hands-on experience at local streams and ponds.  We will schedule our classes during regular meetings and at special events in the area.

If we truly appreciate our sport we have the responsibility to pass it on.

Conservation Policy Statement

We, the members of the Eastern Blue Ridge Fly Fishers, support the rights of anglers to recreationally pursue fishing in the waters of the United States . Recognizing that all fish species require water conditions of high enough quality to allow them to grow, propagate and maintain population levels that allow for recreational angling.
We stand ready to work with federal and state agencies in an effort to promote and do our part to promote healthy, fishable waters. We also agree to conduct ourselves in accordance with the standards of our parent organization, the Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF).
According to the federation, our members shall:

·        Coordinate our volunteer activities and financial resources with other conservation and environmental organizations seeking to protect water quality

·        Participate in clean-up and restoration projects to build or improve fisheries;

·        Encourage our members to monitor our favorite fishing streams and lakes by utilizing the appropriate tests from the FFF or other sources to measure temperatures, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and other state and federal water quality measures to assure compliance with established standards;

·        Report pollution events (oil and chemical spills, suspected polluting outfalls, violations of water quality standards, etc.) to emergency and enforcement officials.

In addition to the standards set forth by the federation, members of the Eastern Blue Ridge Fly Fishers agree to work to promote a healthy and sustainable Chesapeake Bay habitat.  Because we have agreed to align our group with the FFF, we value all types of water environments whether it be cold water, warm water, salt water, or fresh water.
We have set out to accomplish this goal by working to protect the watershed areas of the bay, which most of us fish and call our home waters.  We also support protecting the quality of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, which often are the beginnings of our local fisheries.
In appreciation of the quality resources gifted us by our forbearers; we shall leave these resources no less diminished to our children.
